Charles E. Keepers, of Frelsburg, passed away Mar. 5 in Victoria at the age of 91. He was born Feb. 18, 1930 in Houston to Hugh Fred Keepers, Sr. and Mary Ann Hagen Keepers. On Dec. 12, 1952, he married Wilma Katherine Bailey.
Charles worked as a Chief Clerk for Houston Belt and Terminal for 50 years before retiring in 1996. He served as a Quartermaster 3rd Class in the United States Navy from 1947 - 1950 aboard the USS Waccamaw (AO-109), an Auxiliary Oil tanker. He enjoyed living in the country, driving his antique car and spending time with his grandson. His hobbies included woodworking and listening to his son’s band.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Fred Sr. and Mary Ann Keepers, his wife, Wilma Keepers and his brothers, Hugh Fred Keepers, Jr. and William Keepers.
Charles is survived by his son, Jason Bailey Keepers and wife Sandra of Frelsburg, and grandson, Noah James-Bailey Keepers.
A funeral service will be Thursday, Mar. 11 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg with Fr. Wayne Flagg. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus and at church Thursday from 9 - 10 a.m. A parish prayer service and rosary will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are John Jordan, John Batla, Ronnie Holub, Tommy Davis, Austin Davis and Samir Joza.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks and social distancing will be required at all times.
