The 65th annual Mayor’s Cup proved to be an entertaining affair as North Salem battled back from an 11-point deficit in the second half and knocked off the Saxons, 41-30.
South Salem leads the all-time series 48-16 and won the most recent encounter in 2017, but North Salem wasn’t going to let history repeat itself on Friday's chilly night.
The ensuing kickoff was taken 85 yards to the house by sophomore Josiah Davis for North Salem.
“Josiah had a really great game, but it’s not something that we didn’t expect from him,” North Salem head coach Jeff Flood said.
5 (Davis) and he was phenomenal tonight,” South Salem head coach Scott Dufault said.
