Welcome back, and in other news. . .
The milestones keep coming fast and furious in Washington state’s battle against COVID-19. More than two million vaccine shots have now been administered in the state.
That goal was reached this week, and the Department of Health says more than 80 percent of all vaccine doses allocated to Washington by the federal government have now been given to qualified patients. Almost 1,400 provider facilities and four mass vaccination sites, like the one in Wenatchee, have been involved in the effort.
As more people become eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the administrator of the Chelan-Douglas Health District said the mass vaccination site at the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee is well-prepared. Luke Davies said the successful operation of the site has become a model not only for the state but also for the rest of the country. Davies appeared on Wake-Up Wenatchee Valley with Dan Kuntz today and talked about the keys to that success. . .
The Wenatchee Valley College machining program has received a $10,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation. This is the second time the program has received this grant.
In the past two years, the grant has purchased $18,000 worth of personal tools for 14 students and has provided $2,000 for Skills USA students to attend state and national conferences. Students require around a dozen unique tools each year of the program. Over two years, the cost of necessary tools is around $3,000 out of pocket.
