Anganwadi worker did not die of Covid vaccine : HP Min

Shimla, Mar 16 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Government on Tuesday said death of Anganwardi worker after 23 days of getting vaccinated against corona did not occur because of adverse reaction of the dose.

Stating this while replying to a query raised by CPI(M) MLA Rakesh Singha in the state assembly, the Minister said death of Aganwardi helper Promila took place after 23 days of first dose. He said preliminary reports and medical examinations revealed that the victim reported weakness in her hind limbs after which she was hospitalised at Hamirpur hospital from where she was refereed to Dr Rajinder Prasad Medical College Tanda.

He said Promila Devi belonged to Saudd village of Sujanpur block of the district. She was administered the first dosage of vaccine and her condition deteriorated thereafter. Ultimately, she died at the IGMC, Shimla leaving all in distress.

The IGMC authorities are still not sure how she died as they are awaiting her postmortem examination as per the latest guidelines of the Union Health ministry. The Minister said Covid Shield was administrated in the state reported 70 per cent efficacy.

Replying to a supplementary query of Inderdutt Lakhanpal, the Minister said guidelines are being followed issued by union health ministry before registering the applicant for the vaccination.

Mr Singha said he neither wants to under estimate nor over estimate the efficacy of the Covid vaccine, however, state government should inform the House the cause of death of the Angwanwadi helper of Hamirpur district.

Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri said in the state assembly that he along with Congress member Asha Kumar got first shot of Covid vaccination, therefore, members should not panic while bringing this issue for discussion.

Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar inquired Mr Agnihotri and Asha Kumari if they are feeling good or not after having vaccine. Mr Agnihotri and Ms Asha Kumari said they are feeling good and want to attend the proceedings of the House.
