It is reported by Jiemian News that Super Species, a new-retail experiment of Yonghui Superstores, will close all stores across China except Fuzhou, and the closing time has not yet been determined. However, Yonghui Superstores denied the authenticity of this claim, saying that the closure of part of its Super Species stores is a regular business adjustment.
Super Species was launched in 2017 to test the water in supermarket catering. In January 2017, the first store was opened in Fuzhou; in November 2018, there were nearly 60 stores nationwide; in December 2018, Yonghui split into YongHui Yunchuang and Yonghui Superstores; in May 2019, Super Species opened a 2,000 square meter store, the first of its kind; in July 2019, the first store in Shanghai was shut down; in September 2019, the Beijing stores shut their doors; in January 2021, all Hangzhou stores were closed.
In recent years, Super Species have been constantly seeking changes. In August 2020, the Super Species Fresh Market opened in Fuzhou, covering an area of about 1,000 square meters, selling fresh food in stalls similar to those in a vegetable market.
It is reported that this fresh market business format has been trialed in Beijing, Shanghai, and Fuzhou last year, but Yonghui has not yet disclosed its official plan for this format. according to the Yonghui Life APP, Super Species has 24 stores in 6 cities across China, including 6 in Fuzhou, 5 in Shenzhen, 4 in Chongqing, 4 in Nanjing, 3 in Shanghai, and 2 in Beijing.
