Corriere dello Sport have revealed that Manchester City have not lost interest in long time centre-half target Pau Torres.
The Villareal man was one of many central defenders on Manchester City’s potential target list last summer, when the club were looking for a top class player to fill the position vacated by club legend Vincent Kompany.
In the end the Etihad club signed Ruben Dias from Benfica, who has proven to be a major success thus far, but recent reports have revealed that the Premier League leaders have not lost interest in Torres.
According to the translated report from Sport Witness, La Liga side Villareal are reported to have a €50 million buy-out clause in Torres’ contract, but Corriere dello Sport claim that the Spanish club ‘will not let him leave for less than €25 million plus bonuses’ - which could represent a major coup in comparison to the buy-out. The report does suggest that Real Madrid would be willing to activate the substantial clause however.
Obviously this is an affordable fee for a club of the stature of Manchester City, however with the addition of Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and the resurgence of John Stones to the defensive line, it seems unlikely that the club would splash any more cash on a central defender.
