Barley helps with mortgage payment - Midland Daily News

There is no real Barley MacTavish. This fund was established by an anonymous donor and is being continued with private financial support, plus donations from area residents during the holiday season. The project has been undertaken to help make Midland a little better place to live. Letters to Barley are not from actual applicants, but do represent typical requests.

Dear Barley,

I am writing to you on behalf of our family. We moved here two years ago and both of us had solid jobs. Our three kids loved our new neighborhood and their schools. We knew we had made the right decision, even though we had to leave family in Ohio because of the employment situation there.

Unfortunately, a year ago, I had to quit my job because of health issues. It took quite a long time to diagnose the fact that I have Lyme disease. I am now on a regiment of antibiotics and other drugs. Although I tire easily, I feel hopeful I am slowly getting better.

We have numerous medical bills. It was challenging to find the cause of my many symptoms. With my job loss, we struggle to pay all of our bills. Our utilities bill was much higher than even last year. We have used up our emergency savings account, and we don’t know what else we can do. We need help with our mortgage payment for this month. Could you help us this one time? Thank you so much.

I am so sorry that it took time to properly diagnose your illness. I am so relieved that you are receiving proper treatment for Lyme disease. You don’t want it to go untreated.
